**Seattle, WA** – Washington wide receiver Denzel Boston had a breakout performance in the Huskies’ 30-9 win over Eastern Michigan on Saturday, scoring two touchdowns and solidifying his role as a key target for quarterback Will Rogers.
Boston, a redshirt sophomore, caught all three of his targets for 32 yards, including touchdown catches from 12 and 1 yards. His performance builds upon a strong season opener where he caught six passes for 76 yards and a touchdown against Weber State.
“He had a great spring for us and a great camp,” said Rogers. “To see him come out there in game scenarios and make plays – he had two touchdowns today.”
Boston’s emergence as a reliable receiver comes after a year of patiently waiting his turn. After playing in just four games during his freshman year, he preserved a year of eligibility and used his time to develop his skills.
“I feel waiting behind those guys was the best thing for me to do and to stay patient and stay here,” said Boston. “This is the time that’s been coming. And I’ve decided to take what I can from the opportunity.”
Boston’s dedication and work ethic have impressed coaches and teammates alike.
“He’s the ultimate competitor,” said receivers coach Kevin Cummings. “He loves to go out there. Every rep to him is the most important one. So there’s no plays off. Every time he’s out there, he’s playing for speed and I think that gives him a really good chance.”
With his strong performances so far, Boston has become one of Rogers’ most trusted targets.
“The best thing about Denzel is that he’s always hungry for the next one,” said Rogers. “He had two touchdowns today, and it was in the fourth quarter, and he was like, ‘Man, we should, we should be up by more than this, you know?’ So that’s the thing about Denzel that I love.”
Head coach Jedd Fisch expressed his pride in Boston’s growth this season.
“I think he’s coming into his own,” said Fisch. “I’m going to continue to challenge him.”
Boston’s strong start to the season indicates a bright future for the talented wide receiver. His commitment to improvement and natural talent have made him a valuable asset for the Huskies, and with his hunger for success, he is poised to make a significant impact in the years to come.
