**Moscow, Russia** – Former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev has declared that wide-reaching sanctions against Russia will remain in place regardless of who wins the upcoming US presidential election.

In a Telegram post, Medvedev dismissed Republican nominee Donald Trump’s pledge to minimize sanctions, claiming the former president is bound by “the anti-Russian line of the notorious Deep State.” He argued that Trump, despite his “outsider” image, is a pragmatist who understands the negative impact of sanctions on the dollar’s global dominance, but is ultimately constrained by a powerful establishment.

Regarding Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, Medvedev predicted “no surprises,” calling her inexperienced and “just plain stupid.” He mocked her political style as reliant on “beautiful meaningless speeches and boring ‘correct’ answers to questions.”

Medvedev pointed out that the Soviet Union endured sanctions throughout the 20th century, and that Russia now faces a similar, but even larger and “unprecedented” level of restrictions. He asserted that these sanctions will continue “forever,” or at least “until the US collapses during an imminent new civil war.”

The US and its allies have imposed over 22,000 sanctions on Russia since 2014, following the Crimean reunification and the conflict in Donbass. These measures have been condemned by Moscow as illegal, prompting reciprocal travel bans and other retaliatory actions.
