**Uyo, Akwa Ibom State:** The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has announced its collaboration with the Ministry of Niger Delta Development to create a comprehensive master plan for the region’s development. The plan, known as the Niger Delta Regional Development Strategy, will integrate existing initiatives like the Niger Delta Regional Development Master Plan, the Ministry’s Action Plan, and International Oil Companies’ Regional Plan.
The announcement was made by NDDC’s Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Davies Okarevu, during a two-day workshop in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The workshop, focused on harmonizing the various regional development strategies, aimed to ensure a unified approach to the region’s growth.
“This integrated strategy will reflect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for the region’s development,” stated Mr. Okarevu. “It will improve upon existing plans and ensure a coordinated effort for the Niger Delta’s progress.”
The workshop brought together key stakeholders from the NDDC and the Ministry, providing a platform for discussion and collaboration. Dr. Shuaib Belgore, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, emphasized the importance of a unified master plan, stating that it is crucial for achieving sustainable development in the region.
Lead consultant Dr. Atei Beredugo highlighted the seven key pillars of the integrated plan: finance, security, economy (infrastructure), agriculture, oil and gas, and good governance. He emphasized the need for a strategy that will facilitate sustainable growth, reduce poverty and hunger, and ensure a brighter future for the Niger Delta region.
