Sun Sep 08 00:57:40 UTC 2024: ## Rogue Doctor Left Children With Amputations and Leg Length Discrepancies at Great Ormond Street

**London, UK** – A former surgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), Yaser Jabbar, has been accused of leaving young patients with serious injuries, including amputations and leg length discrepancies, after performing “unacceptable and unprofessional” procedures.

An urgent review has been launched by GOSH after an investigation by the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) revealed concerning practices by Jabbar, who specialized in orthopedic surgery. Out of 37 cases reviewed so far, 22 children have suffered some degree of harm, with 13 cases classified as severe. One child required a leg amputation, and another faces the threat of the same procedure.

Some children have been left with significant leg length differences, up to 20cm, while other injuries include muscle damage and nerve damage.

Parents of children treated by Jabbar have expressed their anger and distress over the care their children received. One father, whose six-year-old son underwent lower limb reconstruction surgery, described his child’s “terrible pain” after the procedure, which involved surgically breaking the bone and inserting metal rings called Ilizarov frames. The father alleged that the wrong frame was used during the surgery, leading to complications and further surgeries to correct the errors.

GOSH has acknowledged the findings of the RCS report and apologized to patients and families affected by Jabbar’s practices. The hospital has contacted all patients treated by Jabbar and is working with independent experts to review their care.

A spokesperson for GOSH stated that they are committed to transparency and learning from these incidents. They have also initiated a comprehensive review of their orthopedic service to address the concerns raised by the RCS and improve patient safety.

The investigation into Jabbar’s practices continues, and further details about the nature and extent of his alleged negligence are expected to be released.
