Sat Sep 07 20:08:32 UTC 2024: Hokato Hotozhe Sema from Nagaland won a bronze medal for India at the Paralympic Games in Paris in the men’s F57 shot put with a throw of 14.65m. He is a landmine blast survivor and the first Paralympian from Nagaland to win a medal. Iran’s Yasin Khosravi clinched the top spot and Brazil’s Thiago Dos Santos took silver. Hokato’s journey to the Paralympics is a story of resilience and determination after losing his left leg in a landmine blast in 2002. Prime Minister Modi and Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio congratulated him and a cash award of Rs 1.5 crore was announced by Rio. Hokato’s achievement has been celebrated by officials and he has become a sports hero in Nagaland.
