
Thu Sep 05 00:28:49 UTC 2024: – The Election Commission of India has prohibited the conduct of exit polls during the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections under Section 126 A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
– The ban on exit polls starts from the beginning of polling hours on the first day of the elections and continues until half an hour after the closing of elections in J&K.
– The assembly polls are scheduled to commence on September 18 in 3 phases across J&K.
– The notification also prohibits displaying any election matter, including results of opinion polls, in electronic media during the 48 hours ending with the conclusion of polling.
– Anyone found contravening these provisions could face imprisonment, a fine, or both.
