Wed Sep 04 01:48:46 UTC 2024: – Former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, has been sent to 8-day CBI custody in connection with financial misconduct at the hospital.
– Three others, including Biplav Singha, Suman Hazra, and Afsar Ali Khan, have also been arrested in the case.
– The accused were denied bail, and will be produced before the court again on September 10.
– The CBI has charged the accused with criminal conspiracy, cheating, and dishonesty, and invoked Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
– The investigation was taken over by the CBI from the Kolkata Police’s SIT following an order from the Calcutta High Court.
– Dr. Sandip Ghosh resigned as principal of the hospital after a trainee doctor was raped and murdered on the premises, sparking nationwide protests.
– The Indian Medical Association has suspended Dr. Ghosh’s membership following the incident.
