Tue Sep 03 04:26:06 UTC 2024: – Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, was arrested by the CBI in connection with the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at the hospital last month.
– Ghosh was arrested for alleged involvement in financial irregularities at the hospital and was charged with criminal conspiracy, cheating, dishonesty, and violations under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
– The CBI took over the case from Kolkata Police’s SIT after orders from Calcutta High Court and made Ghosh undergo a lie detector test.
– Ghosh was the principal of the hospital from February 2021 to September 2023 and returned to his role after being transferred in October 2023.
– Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer with Kolkata Police, has also been arrested in connection with the brutal rape and murder case.
