– The ban was ordered by Justice Alexandre de Moraes after X missed a court-imposed deadline to name a legal representative in Brazil.
– Justices Carmen Lucia and Luiz Fux also backed Moraes, making the decision unanimous.
– Moraes had called Musk an “outlaw” for allowing misinformation and hate speech on X.
– Musk denounced the ban as censorship and called Moraes a “dictator”.
– Companies and individuals caught using X in Brazil can face fines of up to $9,000 per day.
– Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva expressed satisfaction with the decision to uphold the ban.
– Satellite internet provider Starlink, owned by Musk, notified Brazil’s telecom regulator it would not comply with the ban order.
– Starlink’s Brazilian bank accounts were frozen by Moraes in a separate dispute over unpaid fines by X.
– Anatel warned Starlink that it could face sanctions for resisting the ban, as it is the only telecom provider to do so.
