Tue Sep 03 13:07:03 UTC 2024: – All five judges on a Supreme Court panel in Brazil voted to uphold the ban on Elon Musk’s X social media platform.
– The ban was ordered by Justice Alexandre de Moraes after the company missed a court-imposed deadline to name a legal representative in Brazil.
– Justices Carmen Lucia and Luiz Fux also backed Moraes’s decision, making it unanimous.
– The ban could be reversed if X complies with the court order and pays the outstanding fines.
– Musk decried the move as censorship, calling Moraes a “dictator”.
– Brazil is serious about clamping down on X, which threatens one of the company’s largest markets with an estimated 40 million users.
– Starlink, another company owned by Musk, has also refused to comply with the ban and could face sanctions from Brazilian authorities.
