– He was an MLA and MLC before becoming an MP, and was active in building up the party in Nanded
– Chavan continued to work for the party despite being ill, and his death is a major loss for the Congress party
– Two weeks before his death, he participated in a Congress tour to finalise Maharashtra Assembly seats in Nanded and Latur districts.
