Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat is appealing her disqualification from the women’s 50kg wrestling final at the Paris Olympics 2024 to the Court of Arbitration for Sports. She was disqualified for weighing just 100 grams over the limit, despite winning her semi-final match. Phogat is requesting a silver medal and argues that her weight gain was a natural part of her body’s recovery process, not an attempt to gain an unfair advantage. Renowned lawyer Harish Salve will represent her in the appeal. The Court of Arbitration for Sports has set a deadline of August 8 for a final verdict.
