A senior administrative officer with the Income Tax (I-T) department in Bengaluru was allegedly defrauded of valuables worth over Rs 31 lakh by a roadside parrot astrologer. The victim, with 33 years of experience and currently posted in Koramangala, reportedly fell prey to promises of career advancement and prosperity through divine rituals. The incident came to light after the officer filed a complaint with the Bharathi Nagar police on March 5, 2026.

The officer encountered the accused, identified as Shekhar, in December 2025. Shekhar allegedly convinced the officer that he could predict the future and offered a special ritual for Rs 50,000. The fraud escalated as Shekhar persuaded the officer to hand over gold and silver ornaments, promising their return after a more powerful ritual. The astrologer then became unreachable and issued threats when the officer demanded his valuables back.
