Discussions focused on Montenegro’s interest in importing Azerbaijani natural gas via the Ionian-Adriatic Pipeline (IAP), envisioned as a key component of the Southern Gas Corridor. Both nations expressed support for the Azerbaijan-Armenia Joint Declaration signed in Washington on August 8, 2025, aiming for regional stability.

Montenegro aims to conclude EU accession negotiations by the end of 2026 and be ready for membership by 2028. The two countries signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in consular affairs, furthering institutional cooperation. The 4th session of the Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation, planned for the first half of March 2026, will analyze existing cooperation and future activities in various sectors. Montenegro also seeks increased Azerbaijani investment in tourism, infrastructure, and green energy projects, highlighting the success of the Portonovi complex as a model for future collaboration.
