Former Wisconsin QB Billy Edwards Transfers to North Carolina for Final Season
CHAPEL HILL, NC – Billy Edwards, a veteran quarterback with a winding college career, is heading to North Carolina for his sixth and final year of eligibility. Edwards, formerly of Wisconsin, has committed to the Tar Heels via the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3.
Edwards’ time at Wisconsin was cut short by a knee injury sustained in the 2025 season opener. Despite attempting a return against his former team, Maryland, Edwards re-injured his knee and did not play again that season. The Badgers struggled without him, finishing with a disappointing 4-8 record.
Prior to Wisconsin, Edwards spent three seasons at Maryland, where he made 26 appearances and 11 starts for the Terrapins. He amassed 3,317 passing yards and 19 touchdowns during his time in College Park. His best season came in 2024 when he threw for 2,881 yards and 15 touchdowns. He originally started his college career at Wake Forest, redshirting his freshman year.
A three-star recruit out of Lake Braddock High School in Virginia, Edwards now has the opportunity to revitalize his career and help turn around a North Carolina program that finished 4-6 in 2025 and missed bowl eligibility for the first time in six years. He hopes to contend for the starting quarterback role.
