Kathmandu, Nepal – January 5, 2026 – An inquiry commission investigating the deadly Gen Z protests that rocked Nepal in September 2025 has lifted travel restrictions previously imposed on former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli. The decision, announced today, follows Mr. Oli’s formal response to the commission’s queries regarding the government’s handling of the protests.

The protests, triggered by widespread discontent over corruption, nepotism, and social media limitations, escalated into violence, resulting in the deaths of 77 people. The unrest ultimately led to the collapse of Mr. Oli’s coalition government.
