Veteran Kicker Matt Prater Praises Buffalo Bills’ Culture After Joining Team Mid-Season

Buffalo, NY – After 19 seasons in the NFL, veteran kicker Matt Prater admits he’s found something special with the Buffalo Bills. The 41-year-old, who joined the team late in the summer due to Tyler Bass’s injury, has been impressed by the positive environment within the organization.

“I love being here from top to bottom with ownership, coaches, quarterback, everybody. It’s the best locker room I think I’ve ever been in,” Prater stated as the Bills prepared for their Week 18 game against the New York Jets.

Prater’s arrival came as a practice squad elevation, but his performance against the Baltimore Ravens led to a permanent spot on the active roster. While filling in for the injured Bass, Prater earned the team’s trust, converting an impressive 90 percent of his field goal attempts through 14 games. A recent quad injury sidelined him for two weeks, but he has since returned to full practice and is expected to be available against the Jets.

Despite a long and decorated career, including holding the NFL record for most 50+ yard field goals made (82), Prater says his time in Buffalo has been a “breath of fresh air.” He began his career in 2007 and has played for the Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, and Arizona Cardinals, where knee surgery cut his 2024 season short.

“It’s been fun coming out here, being a part of this organization with this team. It’s fun playing again,” Prater said.
