Kozhikode, India – January 5, 2026 – A beer truck overturned in Kozhikode early Monday morning following a collision with a car, resulting in the death of the truck driver and scattering hundreds of beer bottles across the road.
The incident occurred around 4:00 AM at the Iringadanpalli junction. According to police reports, the lorry, carrying beer from Karnataka to Ernakulam, collided with a car bearing Telangana registration. The car was allegedly being driven negligently.
The impact of the collision caused the lorry to overturn, spilling over 700 boxes of beer bottles onto the road. The truck driver, identified as Akhil Krishnan, 30, of Valiamram, Pulpally in Wayanad district, was trapped inside the vehicle.
A rescue operation lasting nearly an hour was conducted by emergency services. Krishnan was eventually extricated and transported to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities have deployed over 20 police personnel to the accident site to prevent the public from taking the spilled beer bottles. The Excise department will conduct the necessary documentation before the wreckage and spilt beer are cleared.
An investigation is underway, and a case has been registered against the driver of the car.
