Sun Jan 04 19:30:00 UTC 2026: ## Top Recruit Keon Keeley Enters Transfer Portal, Leaving Alabama
TUSCALOOSA, AL – Former five-star recruit Keon Keeley, a defensive end for the Alabama Crimson Tide, has announced his intention to enter the NCAA transfer portal. Keeley, ranked as the No. 3 overall prospect in the 2023 class according to 247Sports, confirmed his decision to ESPN on Sunday.
Keeley’s departure comes after three seasons with the Tide, during which he appeared in 18 games, including 13 this season. He recorded 13 tackles and three sacks in 2025. His decision also follows the impending departure of senior LT Overton, who will be entering the NFL Draft, creating potential opportunities for younger players.
Keeley’s Alabama career saw him transition from an outside linebacker under former head coach Nick Saban to a defensive end in defensive coordinator Kane Wommack’s new scheme. The change involved a significant weight gain of 35 pounds. While he saw limited action in 2024, Keeley experienced an uptick in playing time this season, particularly during Overton’s absence due to a medical condition in the SEC Championship and College Football Playoff first round games.
Despite flashes of potential, Keeley ultimately saw inconsistent playing time, often behind Overton and fellow redshirt sophomore Jordan Renaud on the depth chart.
With Keeley entering the portal and Overton heading to the NFL, Alabama’s defensive end depth will rely on Renaud and Fatutoa Henry, a junior college transfer entering his redshirt senior year. The Crimson Tide also signed five freshmen defensive linemen in the 2026 class, who will likely compete for roles at both defensive tackle and defensive end.
The NCAA transfer portal opened on Friday and remains open until January 16. Keeley is expected to be a highly sought-after prospect, given his pedigree and remaining eligibility.
