Swayman to Guard Net as Bruins Face Canucks in Vancouver; Hometown Hero Minten Set to Shine

VANCOUVER – The Boston Bruins will take on the Vancouver Canucks tonight at Rogers Arena, with Jeremy Swayman confirmed to start in goal. However, the game holds extra significance for Bruins forward Fraser Minten, a Vancouver native who grew up just steps from the arena.

Minten, 21, who spent his childhood playing ball hockey near Rogers Arena, will be making his NHL debut in his hometown. The young forward is expected to have between 50 and 100 family and friends in the stands to cheer him on. Minten was acquired by the Bruins from the Toronto Maple Leafs in March.

“Just felt like a normal skate this morning, but probably will feel a little different come game time tonight,” Minten said. “[My friends and family] are very excited. They’ve been talking about it for a few days now – well, a few months. Since I’ve been here, they’ve been all over talking about it, so I’m sure they’re all really excited.”

Head coach Marco Sturm expressed his admiration for Minten’s maturity and professionalism, stating, “He’s already a very mature kid. Very professional. Feels like he has already been around for at least 10 years…He’s already a leader, I would say, in his own way. I am very impressed with him.”

The Bruins are looking to build on their recent 6-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers and continue their five-game road trip with a win against a young and hardworking Canucks team. The Bruins lost the previous matchup with the Canucks earlier this season in a shootout at home.
