Sun Jan 04 15:50:00 UTC 2026: ## Spurs Draw with Sunderland Met with Boos as Frustrations Mount

Tottenham, London – Tottenham Hotspur’s woes continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by a depleted Sunderland side, sparking a chorus of boos from frustrated home fans at the final whistle. This follows similar displays of discontent from travelling supporters after Thursday’s goalless draw against Brentford.

Spurs, playing their first game since the £35 million sale of Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace, initially showed promise, taking the lead through Ben Davies in the first half. However, a resurgent Sunderland, missing several key players due to international duty, dominated the second half and deservedly equalized through Brian Brobbey in the 80th minute.

The first half saw Tottenham create several chances, with Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs kept busy. Mathys Tel and Richarlison both tested Roefs, while Tel also came close with a curling effort. However, Sunderland remained organized and Granit Xhaka even managed to see the funny side of a slip during a corner, much to the delight of the home crowd.

Davies finally broke the deadlock from a corner, reacting quickest to tap in after Micky van de Ven prodded the ball goalward.

Sunderland emerged a different team after the break, putting Spurs under pressure. Brobbey had already tested Guglielmo Vicario with a shot into the side-netting. As Sunderland grew in confidence, Régis Le Bris’ tactical changes paid dividends, and the away side began to assert themselves.

With ten minutes remaining, Enzo Le Fée hit the post with a header, before then providing the crucial pass for Brobbey, who lashed a shot past Vicario to level the scores.

Tottenham lacked the cutting edge to respond, and the final whistle was met with a loud and clear message from the Spurs faithful, indicating growing unease with the team’s recent performances. This will pile more pressure on manager Thomas Frank.
