Sivagangai Health Officials Investigate Alleged New Year’s Party in Maternity Ward

SIVAGANGA, India – January 2, 2026 – The Sivagangai District Health Officer (DHO) has launched an investigation into allegations that a New Year’s Eve liquor party was held in the maternity ward of the Sembanur Government Primary Health Centre (PHC).

The investigation was sparked after a video surfaced online showing liquor bottles, non-vegetarian food, and snacks scattered in the doctor’s rest area within the maternity ward. According to reports, the video was taken by a man who brought a friend to the PHC for emergency treatment after an accident on New Year’s Eve. Finding no staff initially, the man searched the facility and discovered the scene. He then transported his injured friend to a private hospital.

The video quickly went viral, prompting a formal complaint. DHO Meenakshi confirmed the investigation, stating that she would be interviewing doctors, staff, and the individual who took the video to determine the sequence of events.

A doctor on duty that night denied involvement, claiming that he and two colleagues were treating patients in another building and that outsiders may have accessed the room.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, it has been reported that the PHC’s CCTV cameras have been non-functional for several months. The Sembanur PHC serves over 50 villages in the Kallal area, providing 24-hour care. The incident has raised concerns about the availability of healthcare services at the facility. The results of the DHO’s investigation are pending.
