Miami, FL – Jake Paul’s foray into professional boxing has taken a hit following his devastating loss to Anthony Joshua in December. The YouTuber-turned-boxer has been removed from the World Boxing Association (WBA) cruiserweight rankings, a consequence of the one-sided defeat.
Paul, who entered the fight ranked 15th, was soundly beaten by the former heavyweight champion. Reports indicate Paul suffered a broken jaw in two places, requiring surgery after Joshua’s sixth-round knockout victory in Miami.
The match, criticized for the significant difference in size and experience between the two fighters, saw Paul (12-2, 7 KOs) largely avoid engaging with Joshua directly.
The WBA’s updated rankings, effective December 31st, sees Bosnia’s Edin Puhalo take Paul’s place in the top 15. Puhalo recently secured his 29th career win in December. Paul had initially entered the cruiserweight rankings in July after a unanimous decision victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
