Gandhinagar, January 3, 2026 – An outbreak of suspected typhoid has led to over 100 hospitalizations, including numerous children, at the Gandhinagar Civil Hospital. The surge in cases has prompted immediate action from state and local authorities.

Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi visited the hospital today to assess the situation and ensure adequate care for the patients and their families. He stated that arrangements for food and other necessities are being provided to the families of those admitted. A team of 22 doctors has been assembled to treat the patients.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also taken notice of the situation, reportedly holding three phone calls with the district collector to discuss the matter and plans to conduct a further review later today.

Water samples from these areas have been tested, revealing that the drinking water is unsafe for consumption.

The Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation’s health department has initiated a door-to-door survey in the affected sectors to identify further cases and disseminate information. Residents are being advised to boil their drinking water, consume home-cooked meals, and utilize chlorine tablets to disinfect water tanks.
