VILLUPURAM, January 1, 2026 – Police in the Villupuram and Cuddalore districts of Tamil Nadu have released their crime statistics for the year 2025.
Villupuram police reported solving 339 theft cases out of 489 reported incidents, recovering ₹2 crore in stolen property. The district also saw 15 convictions in 32 murder cases. Authorities detained 55 individuals under the Goondas Act for various offenses, including robbery, drug trafficking, and illegal alcohol sales. Over 2,200 individuals were arrested for alcohol-related offenses, and hundreds more for selling ganja and banned tobacco products. Significant seizures of illicit alcohol were also reported.
Meanwhile, the Cuddalore district police reported a larger recovery of stolen property, totaling ₹3.96 crore. Nine of the 37 murder cases registered in Cuddalore resulted in convictions. The Goondas Act was invoked against 121 individuals. Similar to Villupuram, numerous arrests were made for smuggling IMFL, illicit distillation, and the sale of arrack, ganja, and banned tobacco products. Notably, eight cases booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act resulted in convictions.
