Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh – The Uttar Pradesh Police are facing online ridicule after a video surfaced showing a Ghaziabad policeman appearing to conduct a citizenship verification check using a mobile phone pressed against a man’s back. The video, taken on December 23rd and widely circulated on social media, depicts Officer Ajay Sharma declaring the man, allegedly a resident of Araria, Bihar, to be from Bangladesh after performing the questionable “scan.”

The video shows Sharma saying, “The machine is showing that this man is a Bangladeshi,” while holding the phone to the man’s back.

The incident has sparked outrage and humor online, with users questioning the legitimacy of the method and mocking the officer’s actions. Commentators have also criticized the police for potentially misleading vulnerable individuals.

The incident occurred during a broader search operation in Ghaziabad slums conducted by the police and the CRPF, aimed at identifying illegal immigrants. During these operations, authorities checked Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, passports, and other documentation. Officials have stated that these operations will continue, and action will be taken against those found to be residing in the country illegally.

While senior officials have reportedly taken notice of the viral video, the Ghaziabad Police have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
