Coimbatore’s Ukkadam Bus Stand Redevelopment Nears Completion
Coimbatore, January 2, 2026 – Significant progress is being made on the ₹21.55-crore redevelopment project of the Ukkadam bus stand in Coimbatore, with approximately 50% of the work now complete. The project, which commenced in August 2025, involves the construction of two modern terminals designed to improve transportation infrastructure and passenger experience.
Terminal I, located near the Selvapuram Road down ramp, is nearing completion and is expected to be operational by the end of January. This terminal will feature 28 bus bays, a completed commercial complex, and newly paved roads. Truss work is currently underway.
Simultaneously, construction of Terminal II is progressing at the existing bus stand site. Footing and concrete works have been finished, and construction of the commercial complex is now in progress. Terminal II will house 30 bus bays.
Upon completion, the combined terminals will offer a total of 58 bus bays, accommodating up to 80 buses simultaneously. Passengers can look forward to a range of amenities including seating for 60, restrooms, mother-care rooms, commercial spaces, food courts, free Wi-Fi, charging points, and accessibility features for persons with disabilities. Security will be enhanced with 30 surveillance cameras and a dedicated monitoring center with emergency response capabilities.
According to Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran, the project is on track for completion by mid-February. A strategy for transitioning bus operations during the final stages of construction is being finalized, with options including a temporary relocation site or utilizing the completed Terminal I for a phased opening.
