BRS MLA Kotha Prabhakar Reddy Faces Encroachment Charges in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD, India – January 2, 2026 – Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Kotha Prabhakar Reddy is under investigation for allegedly encroaching on approximately five acres of Durgam Cheruvu lake in Madhapur, Hyderabad. The Cyberabad police have registered a case against Reddy following a complaint lodged by the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA).

The complaint alleges that Reddy, along with another individual identified as Venkat Reddy, illegally filled a portion of the lake with soil and stones, violating the lake’s Full Tank Level (FTL) boundaries demarcated by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority in 2014. Authorities claim the encroached area was being used as a commercial parking facility for private transport vehicles.

“The illegal structures built on the encroached land have already been removed by HYDRAA,” stated a police spokesperson. “We have booked Mr. Reddy under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.”

The investigation is ongoing as authorities gather further evidence. This case highlights concerns regarding encroachment on water bodies in the city and the enforcement of environmental regulations.
