Bengaluru, January 2, 2026 (The Hindu e-Paper) – A couple who worked as domestic help are the prime suspects in a robbery that saw valuables worth ₹1.37 crore disappear from a businessman’s residence in the upscale Sadashivanagar neighborhood of Bengaluru.

Shahir and Hajira Begum, originally from West Bengal, had been employed by the family intermittently between 2022 and 2024 before rejoining their service on December 27, 2025. On December 30th, the businessman and his family departed for Coimbatore to celebrate the New Year, entrusting the couple with the house key to deliver to a nearby relative.

Growing suspicious when the key was not delivered as expected, the family dispatched their driver to check on the property. The driver discovered the house ransacked, with wardrobes open and valuables missing. Shahir and Hajira Begum were also nowhere to be found.

According to sources, the stolen items include a significant amount of gold ornaments and a collection of luxury watches. Authorities are currently investigating the incident and attempting to locate the missing couple.
