Selhurst Park, London – Crystal Palace secured a hard-fought point against Fulham in a match that saw them battling fatigue and a depleted squad, according to manager Oliver Glasner. Speaking after the game, Glasner praised his players’ efforts, acknowledging the challenges of a congested fixture list and a short-handed squad.
“We are in survival mode right now,” Glasner admitted. “As long as the legs did what we wanted them to do we were ok… We have so many games and the squad is quite short of numbers, but they give everything they have.”
The Eagles took the lead through a well-taken Jean-Philippe Mateta header, assisted by Nathaniel Clyne, who grabbed his first Premier League assist since April 2022. Glasner expressed his delight for Mateta, who has struggled for goals recently. “It was a great goal, a great header, a fantastic cross from Clyne,” he said. “It will help him but us definitely.” He added he trusted Mateta could score goals and help the team.
Fulham, however, ramped up the pressure, and Palace struggled to release it. Ultimately, they had to settle for a draw, extending their winless home streak to five games.
Addressing Fulham manager Marco Silva’s pre-match comments about Palace’s potential fatigue, Glasner remained unfazed. “It’s not worrying me, it’s about finding a solution,” he stated, acknowledging that exploiting opponent weaknesses is part of the game. He also doesn’t expect many players to return in the next three games.
Despite the challenges, Glasner remained optimistic, emphasizing his appreciation for his players’ commitment. The game also saw Marc Guéhi reach his 150th Premier League appearance for Crystal Palace.
This draw sees Crystal Palace continue their fight for Premier League survival, a battle Glasner is confident his players will face head-on.
