Celtics’ Neemias Queta Emerging as Most Improved Player Contender, Says ESPN Insider
BOSTON, MA – Neemias Queta, center for the Boston Celtics, is gaining recognition as a potential contender for the NBA’s Most Improved Player of the Year award. ESPN’s Zach Kram recently highlighted Queta’s significant contribution to the Celtics’ impressive 19-12 start to the 2025-26 season, placing him among the top three candidates alongside Jalen Johnson (Atlanta Hawks) and Deni Avdija (Portland Trail Blazers).
Queta, a former second-round pick, has stepped up to fill the void left by Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis and Luke Kornet, starting in 29 of the Celtics’ first 31 games. He currently leads the team in rebounds per game (7.9) and field goal percentage (.654).
Kram noted Queta’s impact on the court: “In the first extended starting stretch of his career, as a fill-in for the departed Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis and Luke Kornet, the Celtics have a plus-6.6 net rating with Queta on the court, versus just plus-2.6 without him.”
Jaylen Brown’s All-Star caliber play has garnered much attention, but Queta’s emergence as a key contributor has been instrumental in the Celtics’ success.
