Lubbe formed a crucial 88-run partnership with Shai Hope (45) to stabilize the innings.

Following the dismissal of Lubbe and Hope, Sherfane Rutherford (47) and Dewald Brevis (36) provided a spectacular finish, hammering 86 runs in the final five overs.

Earlier, Kagiso Rabada marked his return to competitive cricket with an early wicket, removing Bryce Parsons with his second delivery. However, the Capitals fought back with a quick 33-run partnership before George Linde struck, dismissing Will Smeed.

Despite a wicket apiece from Trent Boult, George Linde and Corbin Bosch, Kagiso Rabada was the pick of the MI Cape Town bowlers, claiming 2/48 in his four overs.
