Pune Serial Blasts Accused Shot Dead in Ahilyanagar
Ahilyanagar, January 1, 2026 – Bunty Jahagirdar, an accused in the 2012 Pune serial blasts case, was gunned down by unidentified assailants in Shrirampur town, Ahilyanagar district, on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
According to Ahilyanagar Superintendent of Police Somnath Gharge, the incident occurred at approximately 2:00 PM when two individuals on a motorcycle attacked Jahagirdar as he was returning from a burial ground on Borawake College Road. Jahagirdar, who was in his mid-50s, was travelling with another person on a two-wheeler.
Sustaining multiple bullet wounds, Jahagirdar was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
“The motive behind this attack remains unknown at this time,” stated Mr. Gharge. “We have formed multiple investigative teams and are actively pursuing all leads.”
Jahagirdar was previously arrested by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for his alleged involvement in the 2012 Jangli Maharaj Road serial blasts, which saw four low-intensity explosions rock the heart of Pune, injuring several people. He was out on bail in the bomb blasts case since 2023.
Police reports indicate Jahagirdar had a history of criminal activity in Ahilyanagar district, with cases including murder, bodily offences, and criminal intimidation registered against him. The investigation is ongoing.
