NAGERCOIL, December 31, 2025 – A 35-year-old woman, Rejila, from Sundavilai in the Anjugramam police jurisdiction, tragically passed away on Tuesday following an alleged suicide attempt. The incident is believed to be connected to a dispute between her family and a neighboring family regarding grazing cattle.
According to police reports, the conflict originated when Rejila’s cattle entered a farm owned by B. Vijayakumar, 40, and damaged banana trees and other plants. Vijayakumar subsequently filed a complaint with the Anjugramam police on December 29th.
Rejila was summoned to the police station for questioning on December 30th. On Tuesday morning, prior to the scheduled inquiry, a heated argument broke out between Rejila’s husband, Saravanakumar, and Vijayakumar’s family regarding the complaint.
In the aftermath of the altercation, Rejila allegedly attempted to end her life and was admitted to Kanniyakumari Government Medical College and Hospital, where she died later that evening.
Following her death, Rejila’s husband and relatives submitted a petition to the Kanniyakumari Superintendent of Police, refusing to claim her body until Vijayakumar and his brother, B. Maheshkumar, 45, are arrested.
Police have stated that they are awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the cause of death before making any arrests, as Rejila did not leave a statement implicating the individuals. The post-mortem report is expected to shed light on the circumstances surrounding her death.
