Bidar’s “Akka Squad” Hailed as a State Model for Women and Child Safety
Bidar, December 31, 2025 – The “Akka Squad,” a women-led initiative launched in Bidar to combat crimes against women and children, is being lauded as a successful model for the entire state. Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister and Bidar district in-charge Eshwar Khandre emphasized the squad’s effectiveness during a ceremony where a new vehicle was commissioned for their use.
The Akka Squad, operating under the Department of Women and Child Development and in collaboration with local police, is actively patrolling public areas, bridging the gap between safety and awareness. According to Khandre, their work is instrumental in women’s empowerment and fostering a sense of security.
State advisor Shiny Pradeep Gunti highlighted the initiative’s core belief: that a district’s safety hinges on women feeling secure. Since its inception, the Akka Squad has successfully prevented child marriages, provided crucial assistance to accident victims, and intervened to protect women from harassment.
Superintendent of Police Pradeep Gunti announced the strengthening of the squad through digital technology and its expansion from a district to a state-level force. The Akka Squad aims to deliver immediate aid, courage, and confidence to women and children in need.
The launch event was attended by key officials, including Additional Superintendent of Police Chandrakant Pujari, Deputy Superintendent of Police N.D. Sannidi, Circle Inspectors, representatives from the Women and Child Development Department, and members of local educational institutions.
