Pune, Maharashtra – In a significant development in Maharashtra politics, the two factions of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), led by Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar, are set to contest the upcoming municipal corporation elections in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad together. However, details of their seat-sharing agreement remain unclear.

In an exclusive interview, Supriya Sule, working president of the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) and daughter of Sharad Pawar, confirmed the alliance, stating, “Yes, our alliance is in place.” While acknowledging the party has provided forms to candidates, she refrained from providing specific figures, citing the ongoing collection of data across the state.

When questioned about the decision-making process behind the alliance, Sule avoided specifics, emphasizing the focus on results rather than the process. She affirmed the decision was unanimous on both sides.

The alliance has sparked speculation about a potential merger between the two factions. While Sule dismissed these rumors, stating she “cannot prevent speculations,” she also avoided ruling out the possibility, saying she has “no idea.”

Furthermore, the recent visit of Gautam Adani to the Pawar family in Baramati has drawn attention, especially considering the Congress party’s criticism of the businessman. Sule defended the family’s long-standing personal relationship with Adani, stating, “We have never hidden it.”

The possibility of the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) joining the BJP-led Mahayuti coalition was also addressed. Sule dismissed the notion as speculation. When pressed further on the potential for such a move, she avoided definitive statements, maintaining a stance of focusing on the present elections. She stated “Do not put words in my mouth.”

With the municipal corporation elections on January 15th, the newly formed alliance is expected to significantly impact the political landscape of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. The long-term implications of this collaboration, including potential mergers or shifts in alliances, remain to be seen.
