NIA Reports Record Convictions, Key Arrests in 2025, Strengthening Anti-Terror Efforts

NEW DELHI, December 31, 2025 – The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has announced a year of significant achievements in 2025, highlighted by a record number of convictions and strategic arrests related to terrorism, organized crime, and human trafficking. The agency reported a conviction rate exceeding 92%, along with the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, an accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, from the United States.

Throughout the year, the NIA registered 55 cases, resulting in 276 arrests across various categories of crimes, including Jihadi activities, Left-Wing Extremism, Northeast insurgency, pro-Khalistan activities, and gangster-related cases. A major success included the arrest of suspects involved in the Pahalgam and Delhi attacks, along with the filing of charges against members of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its affiliate, The Resistance Front (TRF).

Furthermore, the NIA facilitated the deportation of Anmol Bishnoi, brother of Lawrence Bishnoi, who had been absconding since 2022. The agency also focused on dismantling organized crime networks, leading to the arrest of 200 individuals and the attachment of 12 assets linked to absconding terrorists.

Efforts to combat human trafficking also yielded results, with the NIA making progress in cases involving Bangladeshi and Myanmar nationals, as well as Indian youth being exploited in cyberslavery operations in Southeast Asia.

In addition to law enforcement successes, the NIA has invested in technological advancements, creating a “Lost/Looted Recovered” Government Weapons Database and an Organised Crime Network Database to enhance information sharing among security agencies. The agency also conducted workshops on cryptocurrency investigations to combat financial crimes related to terrorism.

According to the NIA, infrastructural development and expansion remain a key focus as the agency continues to strengthen its capabilities in the fight against terrorism and organized crime, ensuring national security.
