Delhi Braces for New Year’s Eve: Traffic Restrictions, Increased Security in Place

New Delhi, December 31, 2025 – As New Year’s Eve approaches, Delhi is preparing for an influx of revelers, prompting authorities to implement stringent traffic regulations and heightened security measures.

The Delhi Traffic Police have issued an advisory restricting vehicular access to Connaught Place from 7 p.m. on December 31st. Both public and private transport will be barred from entering the area. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will also close the exit gates of Rajiv Chowk metro station after 9 p.m.

Anticipating a surge in visitors, the National Zoological Park (NZP) is implementing comprehensive safety protocols. “We are expecting a significant increase in footfall compared to last year, potentially exceeding 30,000 visitors,” said Dr. Sanjeet Kumar, NZP Director. To manage the crowds, the zoo will deploy 40 security personnel at each entry gate, visitor area, animal enclosure, and parking zone. The number of entry/exit gates will be increased, and online ticket bookings will be used to regulate visitor flow. Heaters, blowers, bedding and wooden platforms have also been installed for the animals.

Traffic diversions will also be in effect around popular shopping malls in South Delhi, including Select Citywalk, DLF Avenue, and MGF Metropolitan. Restrictions will also be in place around Rani Jhansi Road and adjoining areas in anticipation of a huge rush at Jhandewalan Mandir.

Commuters are advised to avoid the Bhairon temple-Mathura Road stretch between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Pragati Maidan. Vehicles will be restricted in Mandi House, Bengali Market, Minto Road–DDU Marg crossing, R.K. Ashram Marg, Gole Market, Patel Chowk, Kasturba Gandhi Road–Ferozeshah Road crossing, Jai Singh Road–Bangla Sahib Lane, and Windsor Place.

Authorities urge the public to plan their journeys accordingly and utilize public transport where possible. Limited parking will be available at Connaught Place on a first-come, first-served basis. The Delhi Police have urged citizens to celebrate responsibly and cooperate with security personnel to ensure a safe and enjoyable New Year’s Eve for everyone.
