Wed Dec 31 09:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Wiregrass Community Mourns Death of Pastor DaQuarius Green After Level Plains Shooting

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – The Montgomery and Wiregrass communities are in mourning following the death of Pastor DaQuarius Green, 31, who passed away Saturday after being shot in Level Plains, Alabama on December 23rd.

According to the Dale County Sheriff’s Office, Green was shot during a domestic incident inside a home in the Freedom Heights neighborhood off Rucker Boulevard. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died. No charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.

Green was widely known in Montgomery for his ministry and community outreach. Minister DiVonta Palmer, a fellow pastor and friend, described Green as a humble and dedicated man.

“To me, the man was a humble man, an honest man, a man who deeply loved God and his family,” Palmer said. “We ran in the same church circles, and every interaction mattered.”

Palmer recalled Green showing up unexpectedly at his church, a gesture that deeply impacted him. He expressed his shock and grief upon learning of Green’s passing.

Green was identified as the pastor of Elba Zion Missionary Baptist Church in a Facebook post. The church released a statement thanking God for Green’s service and spiritual leadership, asking the community to keep his family and congregation in prayer.

A prayer vigil was held in Green’s honor on Sunday. Despite past legal issues that were ultimately dismissed, friends and colleagues remember Green as a man committed to his faith, his family, and a life of service.

“He was human,” Palmer said. “A man of God. A father. A husband. He did not deserve to die.”

Authorities say the investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
