Hyderabad, December 31, 2025 – In a world increasingly dominated by digital interactions, a counter-trend is taking hold in Hyderabad: the rise of social meet-up groups. These organizations are offering residents, particularly newcomers and young professionals, a chance to forge real-world connections based on shared interests and experiences.
According to The Hindu, several groups are making waves in the city. Bengaluru-based Oopar Club, launched in Hyderabad in September 2024, boasts nearly 1,000 members and focuses on creating meaningful, in-person connections through curated events. Founder Sagar Agarwal emphasizes that the stigma around meeting strangers is fading as people seek authentic friendships beyond online interactions.
Small World, established in Bengaluru in 2019, expanded to Hyderabad and other cities. Founded by Saurav Arya, the group caters primarily to IT professionals and new residents aged 21-35, offering a variety of events like “Chai Pe cha Cha” and “Social Mixer.” Their 2026 plans include two new ventures: Intellectual Society, featuring subject matter experts, and Eye Contact Booth, promoting non-verbal connection.
InterNations caters to expatriates and NRIs (Non-Resident Indians), providing a platform for networking and support. Ambassador Sana Bettaib highlights the group’s role in sharing vital local information and fostering lasting friendships, even leading to marriages among members.
Local entrepreneur Ritik Raina, inspired by his own experience of loneliness upon moving to Hyderabad in 2024, co-founded Milaap Events in April 2025. Known for events with Hindi film song-inspired names, Milaap Events focuses on creating a non-judgmental space for open conversation and shared experiences. Raina plans to expand the organization to Bengaluru and Pune in the coming year.
These groups are addressing a growing need for genuine human interaction in an increasingly digital world, offering residents of Hyderabad a refreshing alternative to online-only connections.
