Wed Dec 31 03:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Jazz Snap Spurs’ Winning Streak Despite Wembanyama’s Return
SAN ANTONIO, TX – The Utah Jazz defeated the San Antonio Spurs 127-114 on Saturday night, ending the Spurs’ impressive eight-game winning streak. Lauri Markkanen led the Jazz with 29 points, while Keyonte George added 28.
The game marked the return of Spurs’ rookie phenom Victor Wembanyama to the starting lineup after a 12-game absence due to a strained left calf. Wembanyama made a significant impact, scoring 32 points, grabbing seven rebounds, and blocking five shots in just under 28 minutes of play.
Despite Wembanyama’s strong performance and 27 points, 10 rebound performance by Keldon Johnson, the Spurs couldn’t overcome the Jazz’s balanced attack. Walter Clayton Jr. chipped in with 17 points for Utah, and Jusuf Nurkic contributed 16.
The Jazz took the lead midway through the second quarter and never looked back. They extended their advantage to 17 points before the Spurs mounted a rally in the fourth. Wembanyama’s highlight-reel dunk cut the Jazz’s lead to 104-101 with under nine minutes remaining, but Utah held on to secure the victory. Stephon Castle had 20 points for San Antonio. The Spurs were missing De’Aaron Fox due to tightness in his left adductor.
The win comes on the heels of Utah’s victory over the Eastern Conference-leading Detroit on Friday, marking a successful back-to-back road trip against two of the NBA’s top teams.
This was the first pair of consecutive home games for the Spurs in six weeks after a long road trip. The Spurs will look to bounce back on Monday when they host the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Jazz will return home to face the Boston Celtics on Tuesday.
