Accused in Bangladeshi Student Leader’s Murder Claims Innocence, Alleges Political Conspiracy

Dhaka, Bangladesh – Faisal Karim Masud, the prime suspect in the murder of Bangladeshi student leader Osman Hadi, has released a video message from Dubai denying any involvement in the crime. This contradicts earlier claims by Bangladeshi police that Masud fled to India after the killing.

In the video, the authenticity of which is yet to be independently verified, Masud asserts he was in Dubai at the time of the murder and alleges that a radical political group, specifically Jamaat, was responsible for Hadi’s death. He claims he visited Hadi’s office prior to the shooting only for business purposes, stating he sought a job opportunity from Hadi’s Moncho and even provided him with funds as advance payment. Masud also alleges that his family is being unfairly harassed and implicated in the case.

Bangladeshi authorities previously stated that Masud and another suspect, Alamgir Sheikh, escaped to India through the Meghalaya border. However, India has firmly denied these allegations, calling them a fabricated narrative by extremist elements.

Osman Hadi, a key figure in last year’s student uprising that led to the end of Sheikh Hasina’s rule in Bangladesh, was shot by masked gunmen in Dhaka on December 12th and succumbed to his injuries six days later in a Singapore hospital. His death sparked widespread unrest in Dhaka, including attacks on media outlets and cultural organizations. A purported photo of Masud’s UAE visa has circulated on social media.
