Eurostar Services Halted as Channel Tunnel Suffers ‘Technical Intervention’

London, UK – [Date of Publication] – Eurostar services between London and continental Europe have been indefinitely suspended, leaving thousands of passengers stranded during the busy holiday period. The disruption is due to a power supply problem within the Channel Tunnel, followed by a stalled shuttle train.

“There was a power supply problem in the Channel Tunnel followed by a shuttle train coming to a halt inside,” a Eurostar spokesperson confirmed. “All journeys to and from London are suspended until further notice.”

Eurotunnel, the operator of the Channel Tunnel, stated that the power issue is affecting both passenger and vehicle rail travel in both directions. A “technical intervention” is underway to restore the situation as quickly as possible, with hopes that traffic will resume gradually this afternoon. However, as of 15:30 GMT, Eurostar warned passengers that the power fault was persisting.

The sudden suspension has caused chaos at major stations, including London’s St Pancras and Paris’s Gare du Nord, as travelers scramble to find alternative transportation. Many passengers are facing ruined holiday plans.

“I’m disgusted, disheartened,” said Sarah Omouri, a French traveler whose plans to celebrate the New Year in London were dashed. “It’s been maybe a year since we’ve had a vacation… Now we’re told that everything is fully booked for several days. It’s ruined.”

Jamie and Issy Gill were forced to seek a flight back to the UK after their train was cancelled.

The 50km Channel Tunnel, a vital link between the UK and Europe since 1994, carried a record 19.5 million Eurostar passengers last year. This latest disruption follows previous incidents, including an electrical fault in August and cable theft in June, adding to criticism regarding Eurostar’s service and pricing.
