Goff Dashes Hopes of Ragnow Return in 2026 as Lions Weigh Center Options

DETROIT, MI – Detroit Lions fans hoping for a miraculous return of retired All-Pro center Frank Ragnow in 2026 will be disappointed. Quarterback Jared Goff has poured cold water on any speculation of a comeback, suggesting Ragnow’s interest in rejoining the team isn’t there.

“No, I don’t think that’s in the cards at all,” Goff told 97.1 The Ticket on Tuesday. “Of course I’ll talk to Frank, I just don’t think his interest level (in returning) is there.”

Ragnow, a four-time Pro Bowler, initially retired in June 2025, citing family reasons and injury struggles after nine seasons in Detroit. A brief attempt at unretirement in November was cut short by a severe hamstring tear discovered during a physical.

The Lions are expected to address their offensive line needs this offseason, particularly at the center position. Veteran Graham Glasgow, who held the position this season, is under contract but carries a significant $8.44 million cap hit, raising questions about his future with the team.

Coach Dan Campbell has indicated that 2025 second-round pick Tate Ratledge, currently starting at right guard, remains an option at center. “We felt like he could be a center and that’s still not off the table,” Campbell stated, highlighting Ratledge’s athleticism and size.

The team has also been evaluating practice squad center Kingsley Eguakun, who has started in Glasgow’s absence for the past two weeks. Trystan Colon and Michael Niese are also available options at center.

The Lions are looking to improve their offensive line after experiencing some regression in 2025. The team must decide if Glasgow’s play warrants the cap hit, and determine the roles for Ratledge, Eguakun, Colon and Niese.
