Vijayawada, India – December 31, 2025 – The NTR Police Commissionerate announced a significant decrease in overall crime for 2025 during a year-end press conference held Tuesday. Police Commissioner S. V. Rajasekhar Babu reported a 21.66% drop in total cases, with 9,503 cases registered compared to 11,977 in 2024.
Several categories saw notable declines, including cybercrime (down 45.05%), property offences (down 39.83%), crimes against women (down 15.11%), and road accidents (down 23.69%). Fatal road accidents also decreased, with 366 deaths recorded in 2025 compared to 454 the previous year. The Commissioner emphasized the importance of helmet use to reduce head injuries in motorcycle accidents and implored the public to follow traffic rules.
Commissioner Babu credited innovative policing methods for the positive trends, highlighting the use of Face Recognition Systems (FRS) for offender identification, drone surveillance, and CCTVs. Initiatives like e-Deployment of force and the Astram app have also contributed to crime prevention.
While most crime categories saw a decrease, certain offences experienced an increase. Snatching cases rose by 5.17%, murder for gain increased by 33.33%, economic offences were up 12.68%, and narcotics cases involving ganja and other drugs increased by 29.57%.
Despite the increases, the police demonstrated improved success in property offence cases, with an 80.70% detection and recovery rate compared to 51.78% in 2024. Conviction rates also improved, reaching 50% in 2025 compared to 37% the previous year.
The NTR Police also highlighted their successful management of security during the Dasara Navarathri and Bhavani Deeksha Viramana festivals. Furthermore, the commissionerate reported success in cracking down on Maoist networks and child trafficking operations linked to Mumbai, Delhi, and Gujarat. Efforts are underway to prevent economic offences, road accidents, and digital arrest schemes, Commissioner Babu confirmed.
Deputy Commissioners of Police, Additional DCPs, Assistant Commissioners of Police, and other officers were present at the press conference.
