BJP Accuses West Bengal CM of Threatening Union Home Minister
Kolkata, December 31, 2025 – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly condemned West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for allegedly threatening Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is currently visiting the state.
Speaking at a press conference, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra accused Banerjee of running a “tana-shahi” (dictatorship) and of making threatening remarks during a public meeting in Bankura district. Patra quoted Banerjee as saying that Shah was “lucky” to have been allowed to leave his hotel in Kolkata, implying she had the power to restrict his movements.
“Mamata Banerjee has threatened the Home Minister of India in words which cannot even be thought of,” Patra stated, calling the alleged threat “Hitler-shahi and tana-shahi.”
Patra further claimed that this incident is not isolated, citing previous attacks on BJP President JP Nadda’s convoy and the alleged killings of 300 BJP activists by TMC goons, forcing thousands more to flee their homes. He decried what he called attacks on democracy in West Bengal and accused Banerjee of “destroying” a state that once led the country.
The BJP’s accusations come amid heightened political tensions in West Bengal.
