Tue Dec 30 14:58:25 UTC 2025: Shami’s Possible Return to Indian Cricket Team

New Delhi, India – Veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami, 35, could be making a comeback to the Indian national cricket team, with the 2027 ODI World Cup being a possible long-term goal. Sources within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have confirmed that Shami’s domestic performances are being closely monitored, and his return is more likely than previously thought.

Shami, who last played for India in the ICC Champions Trophy in March 2025, has been battling recurring injuries. Selectors have been hesitant to recall him despite his impressive wicket-taking record. He was the joint-highest wicket-taker for India in the Champions Trophy.

His recent performance in domestic tournaments, including the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and Ranji Trophy, where he took a total of 37 wickets in his last 10 matches, has reignited discussions about his inclusion in the team.

Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif had publicly questioned Shami’s exclusion when senior bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj were rested.

Chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar had previously stated that Shami’s fitness was the primary concern, and the selectors were keen to bring him back if he was fit.

Shami’s potential return could be as early as the upcoming One-Day series against New Zealand. However, his comeback depends on maintaining his fitness and continuing his impressive form.
