Lakers’ Austin Reaves Out 4+ Weeks with Calf Strain

Los Angeles, CA – The Los Angeles Lakers announced Friday that guard Austin Reaves will be sidelined for at least four weeks after suffering a strained gastrocnemius muscle in his left calf. The injury occurred during the Lakers’ Christmas Day game against the Houston Rockets.

Reaves, who has been a key contributor for the Lakers this season, averaging career highs in points (26.6), rebounds (5.2), and assists (6.3) through 23 games, had previously missed three games earlier in December due to a similar calf strain. He returned briefly, playing off the bench against Phoenix and starting against Houston before the re-aggravation.

The 27-year-old guard has started in 22 of the 23 games he’s played this season, shooting an impressive 50.7% from the field while taking a career-high 16.2 shots per game.

The Lakers will re-evaluate Reaves’ condition in late January. His absence will undoubtedly be felt as the team navigates the remainder of their schedule.
