Tue Dec 30 11:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Turner’s Blistering 99* Propels Scorchers to Crushing Victory Over Thunder

Perth, Australia – An explosive innings from Ashton Turner, who smashed a breathtaking 99 not out off just 41 balls, powered the Perth Scorchers to a dominant 71-run victory over the Sydney Thunder on Thursday. Turner’s knock, featuring eight fours and eight sixes, lifted the Scorchers to 202/8 after a shaky start, while their bowlers then dismantled the Thunder batting lineup, who were eventually bundled out for 131 in 17.3 overs.

The Scorchers endured a terrible start, losing three early wickets. However, a stunning 76-run partnership between Turner and Cooper Connolly (who took two wickets) helped recover. Turner accelerated rapidly, reaching his fifty in just 22 balls.

Turner continued his onslaught, partnering with Aaron Hardie (28 off 16) for a quickfire 52-run stand, which included five fours in the 17th over. While the Thunder bowlers stemmed the flow somewhat at the death, the Scorchers still managed a formidable 74 runs in the final 30 deliveries.

Chasing 203, the Thunder’s David Warner started positively with a six, but the total proved too steep for the struggling team. While Warner and Matthew Gilkes (33) formed a promising 60-run partnership, their dismissals triggered a middle-order collapse. From 81/2 in the 10th over, the Thunder crumbled to 112/8 in the 15th, eventually falling well short of the target.

Cooper Connolly, Brody Couch, Joel Paris and Aaron Hardie, each took two wickets.

The victory propels the Scorchers to third place in the standings, significantly boosting their net run rate. Conversely, the Thunder slump to the bottom of the table, suffering their fourth defeat in five matches.
