Tue Dec 30 03:10:00 UTC 2025: Thailand Accuses Cambodia of Violating Ceasefire Agreement

BANGKOK – Just days after a hard-won ceasefire aimed at ending weeks of deadly clashes, the Thai army has accused Cambodia of breaching the agreement. In a statement released Monday, the Royal Thai Army alleged that over 250 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were detected flying from the Cambodian side of the border on Sunday night.

The ceasefire, which took effect on Saturday, called for both sides to freeze front lines, ban reinforcements, and allow civilians displaced by the fighting to return home. It was hailed as a breakthrough after intense negotiations encouraged by China and the US.

The Thai army condemned Cambodia’s actions as “provocation” and a violation of the ceasefire terms, warning it may reconsider the release of 18 Cambodian soldiers held since July. “Thailand would be obliged to act in accordance [if] violations of agreements and national sovereignty continue,” the statement read.

Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn downplayed the incident, describing it as a “small issue related to flying drones seen by both sides along the border line,” according to AFP.

The accusation comes shortly after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi praised the newly established ceasefire, and US President Donald Trump commended the rapid and fair conclusion.

The long-standing dispute between Thailand and Cambodia has seen renewed tensions this year. A previous ceasefire agreed to in July and signed in October collapsed earlier this month, leading to renewed fighting and the displacement of nearly one million people. Both countries blamed each other for the breakdown of that truce.

The latest development threatens to destabilize the fragile peace and raises concerns about the future of the border region.
